Help The Wolves!

Wolf Facts!

Hiarchy of a wolf pack: First you have the to alpha's or the leader pair. You have the alpha male and the alpha female. Then you have the pups if there are any at that time. (0-8 months is usually the time they keep the rank right below the alphas then they fall down to the bottom) Then you have the rest of the pack in a pecking order.

Usually in a kill the alphas eat first and they usually eat the main organs. Then the rest of the pack feeds on the kill after the alphas down through the pecking order. They do this to show respect to the higher ranking wolf.

Submission: While we're on respect of a higher ranking wolf we will talk about submission. There are two types of submission. You have active submission and passive submission. In active submission the submissive wolf usually crouches it's hind quarters down and licks the higher ranking wolf's muzzle usually pushing forward like it were in love. It puts down it's hind quarters to protect it's organs.

In passive submission the submissive wolf rolls onto it's back and showes it's belly. The submissive wolf lets it's legs hang in the air as the higher wolf checks them over. The submissive wolf curls it's tail to cover it's reproductive spot. This also shows though that it is a lower ranking wolf.

Last note of submission: Sometimes the dominent wolf will put there forpaws on the back of a lower ranking wolf showing that they dominate the other wolf. It is known by the term Riding up (I know what your thinking people but that's not what it is).

Some fun facts: A wolf can run up to 40 mph! They can eat 30 pounds in one sitting (try doing that at Thanksgiving!). They can weigh up to 175lbs!
